DO YOU KNOW THE MEANING OF SANSERA?
In the Sottomarina area, families used to rent rooms of their homes to tourists, moving the whole family into small areas of the house or even sleeping in the attics.
Family Mothers, the sansere, were known by the population who turned to them for their great communication and intermediation skills; they cleverly managed to rent a single room for a whole family, receiving high salary from the clients!
These women lived mostly in the Murassi area, known today as the old Sottomarina, and whenever they were able to intercept the machines of the “foresti” (as the population once called tourists) they approached them and kindly offered assistance to search a summer accomodations.
Appreciated by tourists for their great help and esteemed by all people for their work, we consider them the most interesting personalities of our past.
Our B&B is dedicated to three of these wonderful women: Mrs. Maria Fasoletti, Mrs. Maria Cochi and Mrs. Irma Tapina.
